Hellu, I'm Alera, an artist who tried writing a thing. :')

! POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD !

I've been wanting to do another NaNo game since forever, Zayay was 2013, and I finally got an idea and got the encouragement and support from friends to do it. YEA! Rabi is a character I made 10 years ago and just recently revived again in Pixel Quests, an amazing art rp group that's been a lot of fun. I wanted to tell his story a bit, reveal some of his past which is what this game is.

The deal with Rabi is that at this point, he's still uncertain about a lot of things, he's very good at following orders but taking responsibility and making decisions on his own? Not so good. The original concept was to have very chaotic looking choice screens, like the very first one you see which reflect on how he's feeling and thinking at the time. Buuut...due to the time constraints, I stripped off most choices or made them so they circle around to the same thing and just give some flavour. I didn't really want to do that but managing all the different branches was becoming trickier and trickier. Like, it used to be possible for Rabi to never learn Rozen's secret?? It was getting too complicated. I also wanted to add some choices that lead to an achievement, some of those still remain, but in the end I just wanted to wrap up and finish this game or I'd never release it. |D STILL I'm super happy I made this, both Rabi and Rozen are very special characters to me and Jeanne, ah, Jeanne~ She changed so much since my first concept for her 10 years ago, I was excited and nervous to introduce her at the same time. I need to keep working on her, hnnnn I kind of wish I had introduced Sharo properly too, but didn't feel like drawing his sprite just for one small scene at the end.

And speaking of the endings, the Nostalgia route is probably my fave because it's most reminiscent of the original story from 10 years ago, ah~ But it's also the most unlikely one if canon Rabi was to make the choices. //sigh That's what the True Ending is, what Rabi would do if this was a linear story. Good End has the sweetest ending I think and it really is the best case scenario and then the Bad End...I had so much planned for it but didn't want to spend too much time on it, I would've need to introduce an extra character, meaning draw more sprites, write a lot more and it was already past the NaNo deadline, sooo...I cut it short. I'm kind of tempted to draw that route as a comic or something though. Fun things were supposed to happen, fun things to be revealed, hehe~

On the dev side, pretty much all the art, writing and programming were all done within NaNo. Having a deadline was actually pretty neat, a goal to work towards, I thought I was 99% done and then...it took me so long to put everything together. :')  Also, distractions, Final Fantasy //cough. Important thing is, I had fun with this. \O/ I took my time with the art and tried some fun things with code. One thing I really wanted to play around was giving it a slight cinematic look? Hence the subtitles and close up shots. Adding a bit of animation here and there was fun too.

I'm thankful to my friends who knew about this project for bearing with me hyping over it, patting me as I flipped tables at broken code and despaired over m u s i c, why is choosing music so stressful?! Seriously…

People are already asking me if there is going to be more. My answer is - we shall see~! I need to develop Rabi within PQ first, see what happens to him and officially bring Jeanne to the group too eventually.

THANK YOU FOR READING, THANK YOU FOR PLAYING!
